Resumen de 'My colossus, my overgrown child': Anne Seymour Damer's statue of George III in Edinburgh

John McLintock

  • The writer discusses Anney Seymour Damer's statue of George III in Edinburgh. Originally modelled in 1787, the inclined head, idealized features, full and slightly parted lips, and blank expression of the statue are characteristic of Damer's series of highly idealized imaginary heads that date from the 1780s. The use of modern dress, however, and the characteristic attention to detail, evident in the great care taken over the accuracy of the state robes and regalia, anticipate the more naturalistic portrait busts of celebrated friends and acquaintances that Damer began in 1802.
