A note on the conservation of the Triumph of Love (circa 1544–46), a painting by Titian that is now in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, U.K. The restoration process sought to remedy problems caused by an opaque, decayed, and very discolored varnish, as well as extensive repainting. The work revealed a remarkable underdrawing, and also made it apparent that the edges of the overpainting were covering a fictive occulus that Titian had incorporated into his image.
