Resumen de Experiential Vision in El Greco's Christ Healing the Blind

Andrew R. Casper

  • The article examines the ways in which Greek painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, better known as El Greco, represented vision in three paintings entitled “Christ Healing the Blind.” The ways in which vision and other human senses stood as metaphors for Christian divine grace during the time of El Greco are explained. The author describes the composition of each painting in great detail, with emphasis given to El Greco's use of urban backgrounds. The influence of Italian artist Leon Battista Alberti's thoughts on linear perspective on El Greco's creation of a painted narrative is detailed.
