Los ideales de vida en la filosofía práctica de Schopenhauer

    En este artículo me propongo explorar la filosofía práctica de Schopenhauer desde la perspectiva de las éticas antiguas. Pues estas últimas bregan prioritariamente por responder al interrogante socrático, a saber: �¿cómo debe uno vivir?� De allí que tiendan característicamente a precisar aquellas formas de vida humana que encarnan una vida floreciente y buena. La ética moderna, en contraste, parece más bien centrada en el concepto de acción, y tiende fundamentalmente a responder la pregunta �¿qué debo hacer?�. A pesar de tratarse de un filósofo moderno, la ética de Schopenhauer exhibe a mi juicio mayor afinidad con el punto de vista antiguo que con el moderno. Para apoyar la defensa de esta tesis, ofrezco una reconstrucción de los distintos ideales de vida que su filosofía práctica permite circunscribir.

    In this paper I aim to explore Schopenhauer´s practical philosophy from the perspective of ancient ethics. Ancient ethics primarily tend to respond to Socrates´ question, namely: �How should one live?� Given this, they characteristically intend to precise the content of the best life for human beings. Modern ethics, in contrast, seem to be centered in the concept of action; in consequence, they tend to be more concerned with the question: �What ought I to do?� In spite of being a modern philosopher, Schopenhauer´s ethics exhibits in my opinion more affinity with the ancient point of view rather than with the modern. In order to provide a plausible defense of this thesis, I will offer a reconstruction of the different life ideals that Schopenhauer´s practical philosophy allows us to identify.
