    En este proyecto se estudian seis yacimientos del NE de El Hierro con abundantes y variadas manifestaciones rupestres, abordados ya por otros investigadores, pero que merecían un análisis más detenido y una contextualización arqueológica y ambiental. Se consultó una amplia bibliografía, se realizaron encuestas etnográficas y toponímicas, y se efectuaron tres campañas de prospección y estudio. Facilitó nuestra investigación el uso de una base de datos de un SIG y el tratamiento digital de las imágenes. Los yacimientos están vertebrados por una red de caminos usada hasta hace pocas décadas por la población campesina para aprovechar los recursos hídricos, ganaderos y pesqueros. Además, constatamos una continuidad espacio temporal de la práctica del grabado. La mitad de los paneles contiene inscripciones líbico-bereberes de textos breves, cuya división por líneas parece obedecer a una separación del mensaje en palabras. Por último, hay grabados geométricos y signos aislados sobre los que proponemos diversas explicaciones.

    During this project we have investigated six archaeological sites with abundant and diverse rock engravings, insisting in its spatial contextualization. For three years we have followed several steps: the consultation of a wide bibliography; the accomplishment of ethnographic and toponymic surveys; the exploration of archaeological sites and its environment; and the employment of the new software. In this study we have discovered that the archaeological sites are connected by a net of traditional ways that were used by the peasants up to a few decades ago. In addition, we observe a continuity of the practice of the rock engraving.

    Half of the studied panels there contain libyco-berber inscriptions of brief texts, which linear division seems to obey a separation of the message in words. We indicate in addition, the existence of a different typology that we named isolated signs and on that we propose diverse explanations.
