During the second half of the nineteenth century, the German caricaturist, painter and poet of illustrated satires, Wilhelm Busch, ended one of his comic strips with a reflection that has impressed me since I was a child, because of its depth and simplicity: Das Gute, dieser Satz steht fest, ist stets das Böse, was man lässt. 2 I can't translate this poetically, but the message is: The Good is the Bad that we don't do. So many philosophical volumes have been written about the good, and here, in just one clear and simple sentence, everything is said.
