  • The preparation in capsules is one of the means of adjusting the medication doses in pedriatrics whenever a commercial adequate presentation does not exist. The oral solutions and suspensions constitute a better alternative because they allow for a more precise adjustment of the dosage, thus, facilitating the administration to the patient. In the bibliography, there are studies about the preparation and the stability of oral suspensions with different active principles utilizing the excipients Ora Plus® and Ora Sweet SF®; which are commercialized in the United States. In our Pharmacy Service, there has been considered of interest preparing extemporaneous suspensions of hydrochlorothiazide, spironolactone, dipyridamole and tacrolimus with Ora Plus® and Ora Sweet.® Considering the high cost that supposes the acquisition of these excipients, there has been set forth in this work a retrospective economic study that would compare the cost in the capsule preparation of these active principles cited in different doses with the cost that would suppose the preparation of oral suspensions with Ora Plus® and Ora Sweet.® The method being used has been the one of cost minimization by evaluating the following indicators: goods and services, purchases ans supplies and human resources. The obtained results show saving of 89,665 PTA (19.2%) if the suspensions would have been prepared with Ora Plus® and Ora Sweet.® It highlights that the cost in the preparation of these suspensions is mainly influenced by the cost of the excipients, while in the capsule preparation the personal factor is the most influential
