    El istmo de Panamá se convierte en base de operaciones para la expansión continental y después del descubrimiento del Pacífico en 1513, también por este océano. Hombres del Rey de diver­sa procedencia e intereses hacen presente la Monarquía en la fron­tera en el complejo entramado de clientelas de poder. En el artículo se estudian algunos de ellos en dos etapas políticas diferentes 1514- 1524 y 1524-1540.

    The Isthmus of Panama became the home base for the operations of expansion on the continent and, after the discovery of the Pacific in 1513, also in the Pacific. The King's men from diverse backgrounds and with varied and varying interests represented the monarchical powers on the out­skirts of the realm, in the complex power games of the times. This article explores some of these at two different political times 1514-1524, and 1524-1540.
