La impronta canaria en América: precisiones lexicográficas

    Si bien las relaciones entre Canarias y América han sido ampliamente estudiadas, los diccionarios generales de la lengua apenas han tenido en cuenta la impronta de los "isleños" en la adopción y arraigo de determinadas voces al otro lado del Atlántico. Basándonos en los materiales del Tesoro léxico canario-americano, analizamos algunas palabras del DRAE en las que la introducción de la marca geolectal canaria ayudaría a esclarecer su etimología, pondría de manifiesto su recorrido por el Atlántico y apuntaría las causas históricas que motivaron su actual distribución por el continente americano.

    Although the relations between the Canary Islands and Latin America have been extensively dealt with, general dictionaries of the Spanish language have disdained or overlooked the influence and mark of the "islanders" on the way in which some words have been adopted and taken root on the other side of the Atlantic. Using the contents offered in the Tesoro léxico canario-americano, (Canary-Latin American Thesaurus) we analyse some of the words in the Spanish Royal Academy Dictionary, the geo-lectal features of which afford us insight into their etymology together with the reasons for their progression along the ocean coastlines, offering us a greater vision of the causes of their current distribution in Latin America.
