  • In this paper an attempt is made to combine the needs of quick information retrieval in a monolingual (English, and in particular an English learner's) dictionary with the ideal of vocabulary development by means of the dictionary. To this end the author gives a sample entry ofthe word cut (noun and verb) and draws conclusions about the feasibility of this combination.
