The population of Block-headed Gulls Larus ridibundus wintering in Madrid [Central Spain] has increased continuously since 1980, reaching over 70, 000in dividuals in the winter of 1993. This paper examines the daily and monthly variations in the number of gulls feeding in a large rubbish dump outside the city of Madrid, in oddition to the age and sex cornposition of the wintering population.
