Firstly concerned with examples from Berber and French languages, we show that a proverb crucially presents following salient features : - being a narrative (micro-) setting, immediatly transforming actors in promoted features (mostly «psychological») and shows an instable syntactic structure ; - coming under a stratified polysemic interpretation ; - promoting the close proximity between epistemic and deontic modal dimensions of meaning.
