    Las recientes investigaciones de la historia antropométrica arrojan nuevas líneas de trabajo sobre las tendencias del estado nutricional, la salud, los niveles de vida y el bienestar biológico. El artículo muestra mediante el análisis de un indicador cómo es la talla media de los mozos que accedían al ejército, las condiciones de vida y el estado de bienestar del Valle de La Orotava en la isla de Tenerife. Con la reconstrucción de series de estatura se muestra el nivel de la salud biológica de unas poblaciones dedicadas a la agricultura y a la pesca. El trabajo analiza las profesiones de los grupos y subgrupos agrícolas en donde las diferencias de estatura entre jornaleros, medianeros y propietarios, en relación a los artesanos, comerciantes y otras profesiones, es un indicador más entre estatura y oficio. La verticalidad del territorio permitió el desarrollo de especies vegetales distintas, facilitando una mejor y más variada alimentación. Por otra parte, la altitud y un clima suave sin grandes contrastes favoreció que se dieran una serie de variaciones medioambientales que afectaban la salud.

    Recent research anthropometric history throw new lines of work on trends in nutritional status, health, living standards and the biological. The article shows through analysis of an indicator as the average size of the young men who accessed to the army, living conditions and the welfare state of the Orotava Valley on the island of Tenerife. With the reconstruction of height series shows the level of the biological health of a population dedicated to agriculture and fishing. The paper analyzes the occupations of farming groups and subgroups where the differences in height between laborers, sharecroppers and owners in relation to the artisans, merchants and other professions, is an indicator between height and occupation. The vertical nature of the territory led to the development of different plants providing better and more varied diet. Furthermore, the altitude and mild climate without great contrasts, favored to make themselves a variety of environmental changes affecting health.
