Resumen de Dos manuscritos sobre nobleza indígena novohispana conservados en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid en España

En este trabajo presentamos el estudio codicológico y diplomático de dos manuscritos del siglo XVIII generados en el virreinato de Nueva España que se conservan en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid de España. Uno de ellos recoge en 34 folios el traslado de documentación de los siglos XVI y XVIII relativa a la familia Ixtolinqui de Coyoacán. Se trata de un documento original que presenta además una pintura del cacique y del escudo de armas de la familia. El otro, mucho más breve, contiene la copia de una supuesta Real Cédula de Felipe II a favor de Luis Antonio Chimalpopocal Montesuma, cacique de la ciudad de Tlaxcala. Aunque a nivel codicológico se trata de un original del siglo XVIII, diplomáticamente hablando veremos que con toda probabilidad estamos ante una falsificación, pues no tiene ningún tipo de validación. No obstante, incluye cuatro ilustraciones a toda página que otorgan gran valor al documento. Ambos ofrecen una prueba más del interés de la nobleza indígena novohispana por legitimizar sus derechos.

In this work we present a codicological and diplomatic study of two manuscripts of the 18th century produced in the viceroyship of New Spain which are preserved in the Royal Chancillería of Valladolid in Spain. One of them collects in thirty four pages the record of documentation of the 16th and 18th centuries related to the family Ixtolinqui de Coyoacán. This is an original document that also presents a painting of the chief and his family coat of arms. The other, much shorter, contains the copy of a supposed royal bond of Felipe II in favour of Luis Antonio Chimalpopocal Montesuma, chief of the city of Tlaxcala. On the codicological level this is an original 18th century document, but diplomatically speaking we can observe that it is very probably a fake because it lacks validation of any type. However, it includes four full-page pictures that give the document great value. Both offer further proof of the interest of the indigenous nobility of New Spain in legitimising their rights.
