The Sky Disk of Nebra, on the basic of que associated finds, is thought to have been deposited around 1600/1550 BC. Even if the authenticity und unity of the objects can be assumed, this date is not conclusive since the period of use of the articles can extend into the late Bronze Age. That has, on the one hand, consequences for the evaluation of the appearance and dissemination of the pictorial images and, on the other hand, for the interpretation of the so-called "ship" with its associated sun-symbolism. In that case, it ought to have oblong proportions. Form and interior engraving could also support an interpretation as the blade of a knob sickle, an object frequently documented in cult deposits in central Germany and connected in imagery with the moon symbol.
