    Ecuador posee una amplia gama de manifestaciones en el ámbito folklórico y popular que corrobora su ancestro histórico y su riqueza cultural que constituyen la mayor motivación para que los turistas nacionales y extranjeros visiten el país.

    Estas expresiones se hacen evidentes a lo largo de todo el año cuando los ecuatorianos y extranjeros acuden a observar o a involucrarse en los diferentes eventos que se organizan en disímiles rincones de nuestra patria. De allí que las celebraciones religiosas y paganas son las que marcan el surgimiento de importantes elementos de carácter folklórico.

    En este artículo se abordará un tema relacionado con el folklore social, específicamente con el personaje más relevante de la fiesta del Corpus Christi de la ciudad de Pujilí, su �Danzante�, que forma parte de los desfiles que se organizan para la ocasión y que tiene un significado preponderante aún cuando el sincretismo, entre los símbolos católicos e indígenas, por reiteradas ocasiones ha intentado deteriorar la esencia del auténtico folklore ecuatoriano.

    La presente investigación tiene como objetivo determinar la trascendencia del personaje del danzante en la historia ecuatoriana, destacando el rol que cumple en la celebración del Corpus Christi. Para el desarrollo de este tema se llevó a cabo una investigación de tipo documental, descriptiva y de campo. Se revisaron y analizaron libros, periódicos, revistas y documentos escritos relacionados con el personaje.

    La asistencia a los diferentes actos que incluye esta reconocida fiesta fue de vital importancia ya que se pudo observar cada uno de los elementos y características del danzante.

    Ecuador has a wide range of manifestations in the different scopes of the folk and popular fact that corroborate its historical ancestor and its cultural richness, which are the main motivation for both national and foreigner tourists that visit the country.

    These expressions become evident along the whole year when both ecuadorians and foreigners attend to watch and participate in the different events organized in every corner of our homeland. Hence the religious and heathenish celebrations are the ones which set the appearing of important elements of folkloric character. In this paper a social folklore related topic will be approached, specifically with the most outstanding Corpus Christi festival personage of Pujilí city, its �Danzante�, which is part of the parades that are organized for the occasion and has a predominant meaning even though the syncretism, as part of the catholic and indigenous symbols, has tried to deteriorate the essence of the authentic ecuadorian folklore by repeatedly.

    The objective of this research is to determinate the transcendence of the dancer personage along the ecuadorian history highlighting the role he meets in the Corpus Christi celebration. To the development of this topic, a documentary-descriptive-field research was carried out.

    Books, newspapers, magazines and written documents related with the personage were reviewed and analyzed. The attending to the different acts that this recognized festival include was vital because it was possible to observe each of the elements and features of the dancer
