      El objetivo del presente trabajo fue establecer la gametogénesis, la escala de madurez gonadal histológica, el ciclo reproductivo y talla de primera madurez gonadal de la concha corazón Trachycardium procerum (Sowerby, 1833). Las muestras fueron colectadas de Chimbote, en la playa El Dorado, Bahía de Samanco, Perú. T. procerum, es una especie bentónica con hermafroditismo sexual funcional, con mayor actividad reproductiva en los machos que en las hembras. El ovario presenta tres tipos de ovocitos: inmaduro (OI), en madurez (OEM) y maduro (OM) en hembras. Los machos presentan espermatogonio (SG), espermatocito (SC) y espermatozoide (SP). Las gónadas, de acuerdo al desarrollo ovocitario y espermatogónico, se agrupan en seis estadios de madurez (virginal = 0; reposo = I; en maduración = II; maduro = III;

      desovante/expulsante = IV y recuperación = V). T. procerum, es un reproductor parcial asincrónico, que presenta trabéculas con ovocitos y espermatozoides en diferentes grados de desarrollo gonadal, que van creciendo en longitud y en diámetro y conforme se van llenando de gametos maduros, y permanecen almacenados hasta el momento del desove. Se reproduce con mayor intensidad durante los meses de verano (feb y mar) y primavera (oct y nov). El factor de condición (FC) se relaciona de manera directa con la estación reproductiva. La talla de primera madurez gonadal para las hembras es de 41 mm. La biología reproductiva de este importante recurso bentónico brinda herramientas para un óptimo manejo pesquero para la conservación de esta especie.

      The aim of this study was to establish the gametogenesis and histological gonadal maturity scale, the reproductive cycle and size at first gonadal maturity of the heart clam Trachycardium procerum (Sowerby, 1833). The samples were collected from Chimbote, on the beach El Dorado, Samanco Bay, Peru. T. procerum is a benthic species with functional sexual hermaphroditism, with greater reproductive activity in males than in females. The ovary has three types of oocytes: immature (OI), at maturity (OEM) and mature (OM) in females. Males have spermatogonium (SG), spermatocytes (SC) and sperm (SP). The gonads, according to the oocyte and spermatogonial development are grouped into six stages of maturity (virgin = 0; rest = I, maturing = II, mature = III; spawning/eject = IV and recovery = V). Reproduction in T.

      procerum is partially asynchronous; trabeculae with eggs and sperm at different stages of gonadal development grow in length and diameter as they are filled with mature gametes and are stored until the time of spawning. Reproduction was more intense during the summer (Feb and Mar) and spring months (Oct and Nov). The condition factor (CF) is related directly to the breeding season. The size at first gonadal maturity for females is 41 mm. The reproductive biology of this important benthic resource provides tools for optimal fisheries management for the conservation of this species.
