    Este artículo analiza el proceso de definición urbanístico e institucional del Gran Bilbao. En las siguientes páginas se explican sus antecedentes, su formulación a inicios de los años cuarenta y su pobre desarrollo en los cincuenta, durante el mandato del alcalde Joaquín Zuazagoitia (1942-1959). Prestamos especial atención a los aspectos políticos del proceso que en nuestra interpretación determinaron el fracaso urbanístico e institucional del Gran Bilbao.

    This article analyses the process of the urban and institutional definition of Greater Bilbao (Gran Bilbao).

    In the following pages we explain its antecedents and formulation at the beginning of the 1940s, and the weak development it underwent in the fifties, during the term of office of mayor Joaquín Zuazagoitia (1942-1959). We pay special attention to the political aspects of the process that, according to our interpretation, determined the urban and institutional failure of Greater Bilbao.
