    Juan Luis de Musante, genovés afincado en España desde la década de los 70 del siglo XVI, trabajó al servicio del monarca Felipe II en el último cuarto de la centuria en diversas construcciones regias como maestro mayor de obras reales de Navarra, quedando al frente de la dirección de la edificación de la ciudadela de Pamplona (c. 1575- 1587). Este arquitecto poseyó una de las más nutridas y voluminosas bibliotecas de su tiempo, en lo que se refiere a artistas que desarrollaron su actividad fuera del ámbito cortesano, como revela el presente estudio. La publicación del inventario de los 114 volúmenes impresos que conformaban su librería contribuye a un mayor conocimiento de la adquisición y uso por parte de los artífices en el Quinientos de la tratadística artística, junto a diversas materias afines a la construcción como las matemáticas, la geometría, la aritmética, la perspectiva o la fortificación, entre otras disciplinas históricas, filosóficas y científicas; en definitiva, cuáles eran las fuentes gráficas y literarias de nuestros artistas, los libros y tratados más leídos y manejados por los arquitectos del siglo XVI.

    Juan Luis de Musante, a Genoese who lived in Spain since the 70�s of the sixteenth century, he worked for the King Philip II in the last quarter of the century in various royal buildings as royal master builder of Navarre, being in charge of the direction of the building of the citadel of Pamplona (c. 1575-1587). This architect possessed one of the most numerous and voluminous libraries of his time, in regard to artists working outside the scope of the Court, as revealed by this study. The publication of the inventory of the 114 printed volumes that comprised his library contributes to a better understanding of the acquisition and use of of artistic treatises by the architects in the sixteenth century, along with other materials related to construction such as mathematics, geometry, arithmetic, perspective or fortification, as well as other historical, philosophical and scientific disciplines, in short, what were the visual and literary sources of our artists, the most widely read books and treatises managed by the architects of the sixteenth century.
