    Objetivo. Estudiar la biología reproductiva del blanquillo (Sorubim cuspicaudus) en la cuenca del río Sinú. Materiales y métodos. Se analizaron especímenes capturados entre enero y diciembre 2002, con tallas entre 25.5 y 86.0 cm de longitud total (LT) y peso total (WT) entre 64.0 y 4460.0 g. Las gónadas se conservaron en solución Gilson, se utilizó la escala de Vazzoler y se estimaron proporción sexual, índice de madurez sexual, época de desove, talla media de madurez sexual, diámetro de los ovocitos y fecundidad. Resultados. Se observaron 244 hembras y 86 machos, con proporción sexual hembra:

    macho de 2.8:1, diferente a lo esperado. La época de desove del blanquillo se extiende desde marzo hasta septiembre; la talla media de madurez fue estimada en 59.6 cm LT para sexos combinados; el diámetro de los ovocitos osciló entre 815 y 1411 m y la fecundidad fue estimada en 77.927 ovocitos, con ecuación de mejor ajuste F = 1672.7 WG 0.96, r = 0.93. Conclusiones. El blanquillo es un pez reofílico que desova una vez al año entre marzo septiembre con fecundidad promedio de 77.927 ovocitos.

    Objective. To study the reproductive biology of blanquillo (Sorubim cuspicaudus) in the Sinu river basin.

    Materials and methods. Specimenes captured between january and december 2002, with lengths ranging 25.5 y 86.0 cm of total length (TL) and 64.0 y 4460.0 g of total weight were analized. The gonads were placed in Gilson solution, the Vazzoler scale was applicated and sexual proportion, maturity index, spawning season, the length at first maturity, ovocites�s diameter and fecundity were estimated. Results. 244 females and 86 males were observed, and the sexual proportion female: male was 2.8:1, different from expected.

    Spawning season of blanquillo is extended from march to september; the length at first maturity was estimated in 59.6 cm TL for combined sexes; ovocites�s diameter ranged between 815 and 1411 m and fecundity was estimated in 77.927 ovocites, with better equation F = 1672.7 WG0.96, r = 0.93.

    Conclusions. The blanquillo is a rheophilous fish that spawning one time in the year, between march and september, with average fecundity of 77.927 oocytes.
