    Se puede definir la dictadura como una tensión hacia un centro, en el sentido en que es totalmente contraria a la noción de margen: los que viven al margen de la dictadura están considerados como elementos peligrosos que se oponen a la unidad y a la verdad encarnadas en la imagen del dictador. Yo el Supremo de Augusto Roa Bastos es el monólogo de un dictador: ¿Cómo la margen podría aparecer en medio del centro? ¿Existe un discurso marginal en el centro del texto? Lejos de ser el intermediario único de la voz del dictador, la novela contiene una multitud de voces, no solamente en las notas marginales que completan y critican el discurso principal, sino también en medio del mismo discurso principal. Si las fronteras entre la margen y el centro tienden a difuminarse, ¿cuáles pueden ser las consecuencias de esta confusión?

    Since dictatorship can be defined as the tension towards a center, it seems to be deeply opposed to the notion of border: the fringe are considered as dangerous elements standing in the way of unity and truth, embodied in the image of the dictator himself. Yo el Supremo written by Augusto Roa Bastos is the monologue of a Paraguayan dictator:

    how could the border appear in the middle of the center? Is there a marginal discourse at the center of the dictatorial text? Far from being the intermediary of only the dictator¿s voice, the novel contains a multitude of voices, not only in marginal notes which complete and criticize the main discourse, but also at the core of the main discourse itself. If the frontiers between the edge and the center tend to fade, what could possibly be the consequences of this confusion?
