El presente artículo tiene por objeto explicar al lector lo que son, cómo se obtienen y para qué se utilizan, los alimentos transgénicos, tratando de puntualizar sin posturas extremistas, los riesgos y beneficios que conllevan estos productos, ya sea para la salud como para el medio ambiente.
Expone, asimismo, los diversos aspectos de la materia, entre ellos, el técnico, el social y finalmente el ético, para que el lector pueda sacar sus propias conclusiones, de un tema actual, con grandes controversias.

The purpose of this article is to explain the readers how transgenic food products are obtained and what they are used for and, disregarding extreme positions, to point out the risks and benefits those products may imply, either for health or environment. Different aspects under discussion are presented, among others, the technical and social aspects, as well as the ethical one, so as to allow the reader to come to his/her own conclusion about a current and very controversial issue.
