Resumen de La Edad del Hierro en el País Vasco según las investigaciones de D. José Miguel de Barandiaran

  Introduce el tema, una valoración del conocimiento y estado de la cuestión en la época en que D. José Miguel de Barandiaran inició sus estudios arqueológicos. Tanto de los casos concretos de yacimientos que podían adjudicarse a la Edad del Hierro, como de las conclusiones que debido a su conocimiento podían deducirse.

  En una primera etapa de su actividad investigadora, es decir aquella anterior a 1936, en que el desarrollo de sus trabajos tiene como marco propicio las tierras de Álava, lugar donde residirá durante treinta años, se analizan sus descubrimientos de yacimientos claramente enmarcables en la Edad del Hierro o en periodos relacionados con ella. Con todos los datos obtenidos elaboró su primera síntesis de prehistoria vasca, donde dedicó una amplia parte a estos temas de la edad de los metales, resumiendo sus ideas al respecto.

  Un segundo momento, el que transcurre entre 1936 y 1953, es también analizado, conociendo su dedicación al tema durante estos años, en tierras del País Vasco Continental y los descubrimientos que llevó a cabo, especialmente en lo referente al fenómeno de los cromlechs.

  Su regreso, en 1953, marca su tercera etapa. Es de este momento la edición de su segunda síntesis de prehistoria vasca, conociendo, por comparación con la primera, su valoración en aquel momento concreto.

  Sus investigaciones sobre este tema se desarrollaron con varias excavaciones en importantes yacimientos, que aportaron nuevos datos, aunque la falta de una nueva síntesis impidió conocer sus ideas que resumiesen los resultados obtenidos.

  Se trata por tanto de exponer la trayectoria de este investigador en un tema tan concreto como es éste de la Edad del Hierro en el País Vasco.

  An introduction to the subject, an appraisal of the knowledge and state of this issue in the period when Mr. José Miguel de Barandiaran commenced his archaeological studies; both in the case of specifi c sites than can be assigned to the Iron Age and of the conclusions that can be drawn from his knowledge.

  In a fi rst phase of his research, i.e. prior to 1936, when his work concentrated on the promising area of Alava, a region where he lived for thirty years, he studied the discoveries of sites that clearly belonged to the Iron Age or to periods related to the said age. Based on the data obtained, he prepared his fi rst work on Basque pre-history, where he dedicated a large section to issues related to the age of the metals, providing a summary of his ideas on this subject.

  A second period, between 1936 and 1953, is also studied, based on his dedication to this issue during the said period, in Continental Basque Country areas and the discoveries he made, especially concerning cromlechs.

  His return, in 1953, marks the third phase. It is in this period when he published his second work on Basque prehistory, describing, in comparison with the fi rst work, his assessment at that specifi c moment. His investigations on this subject included a number of excavations at important sites that provided new data, although his failure to prepare another synthesis prevented us from knowing his ideas on the results obtained.

  The idea is, therefore, to present the career of this researcher dedicated to such a specifi c issue as the Iron Age in the Basque Country.

  Gaiak, ezagutzaren balorazioa eta arazoaren egoera José Miguel de Barandiaran jaunak arkeologia-azterketak hasi zituen garaian ezartzen du. Hala Burdin Arokotzat jo zitezkeen aztarnategien kasu zehatzena, nola bere ezagutzagatik ondoriozta zitezkeen ondorioena.

  Bere ikerketa-jardueraren lehen etapa batean, hau da, 1936. urtearen aurrekoan, Arabako lurrak bere lanak garatzeko marko egoki izan zirenen hartan, izan ere, bertan hogeita hamar urtez bizi izan zen, Burdin Aroan edo horren inguruko epealdietan argi eta garbi koka daitezkeen aztarnategi aurkikuntzak aztertzen dira. Bildutako datu guztiekin, Euskadiko Historiaurreari buruzko bere lehen laburpena egin zuen, eta horretan, luze eta zabal aritu zen metalen aroko gai hauei buruz, horien inguruan zituen ideiak laburbilduz.

  Bigarren une batean, 1936 eta 1953 bitartekoan, alegia, ere aztertua izan zen, ezaguna baitzen urte horietan Euskadiko barrualdean gaiari eskainitako lana eta egin zituen aurkikuntzak, eta bereziki, harrespilen fenomenoaren inguruan.

  Bere itzulerak, 1953. urtean, hirugarren etapa markatzen du. Une horretakoa da Euskadiko Historiaurreari buruzko bigarren laburpenaren argitalpena, eta horretan ezagutarazten da une zehatz horretan egin zuen balorazioa, lehenengoarekin alderatuz. Gaiari buruzko bere ikerlanak aztarnategi garrantzitsuetan egindako hainbat indusketatan oinarriturik garatu ziren. Ikerlan horiek datu berriak erantsi zituzten, baina beste laburpen bat ez izateak lortutako ondorioak laburbilduko zuten bere ideiak ezagutzea galarazi zuen.

  Beraz, ikertzaile honek Euskadiko Burdin Aroa bezalako gai zehatzaren inguruan egindako ibilbidea azaltzea da helburua.
