In ocasion of the bicentennial of the american voyage of Humboldt, there has been an increase of studies about the "new image" of Latinamerica. This article discusses some presumptions about the humboldtian legacy for South America, for the pampas in particular, amplyfying the traditional literary sources with documents about mapping and surveying, pictorial and photographical iconography, scientific and technic representations, in the second half of the nineteenth century.
