En este artículo, el autor examina el impacto del Holocausto en el imaginario colectivo y social israelí donde se convierte en un tema con una inmensa carga emocional y ética a la vez. Se examina cómo el Holocausto, con todo su peso catastrófico, devino no sólo en memoria sino en instrumento imprescindible para la construcción de la identidad nacional en la sociedad israelí. De igual manera, se analiza la relación íntima que entre el Holocausto y el conflicto del Medio Oriente se suscita. Entender dichos procesos es central si se aspira seriamente a lograr un proceso de pacificación efectiva entre árabes e israelíes.

In this article, the autor examines the impact of the Holocaust on Israel�s collective and social imaginary, where it exists as a subject carrying an extremely heavy emotional and ethical load. The article examines how the Holocaust, with all its catastrophic weight, became memory but also a tool for the construction of the national identity in Israeli society. In the same light, the article analyzes how an intimate relation between the Holocaust and the Middle East Conflict comes about. Understanding these processes becomes central if the achievement of an effective pacification process between Arabs and Israelis is set as a goal.
