The faults of the western border of Sierra Nevada and the lower course of the Guadalfeo river cut transversally the Betic Internal Zone and form the western limit of the Nevado-Filabride Complex and of the Lower Alpujarride Units. Their movements occurred mainly from the Tortonian onwards. The whole throw of these faults is higher than 5000 m in the area of Sierra Nevada and decreases to the north and south. These faults contribute, as well as other transversal zones of faults in the Betic Cordillera, especially that one of Carboneras-Larca, to the NE-SW to ENE-WSW extension of the Betic Cordillera.
