  • This essay resumes recent studies on the indigenous participation in the supply of rural and urban centres of consume in Nueva España. It is complemented by an additional study from the author on the productive and commercial activities of a mainly indigenous region in the Bajío-region. Finally it presents a detailed analysis of three cities under the jurisdiction of Leon and their peculiar economic backgroungs, listing the variety of products commercialised. Resuming the information given, it shows differences and similitudes between the cities and points out the importance of the colonial markets for the indigenous population.
