    Las dimensiones no patentes del comportamiento y de las creencias humanas, la lógica subyacente de las estructuras y reglas de las relaciones sociales, tienen un gran interés para la antropología que se interesa por el simbolismo y el lenguaje. En este artículo se pretende mostrar que este interés que muestran los antropólogos por lo simbólico no puede ser encuadrado sólo en una tendencia teórica. El símbolo es un concepto problemático y de contenido muy diverso. Precisamente la heterogeneidad teórica, metodológica y epistemológica que caracteriza a los autores y tendencias sobre el simbolismo en antropología se debe, no sólo a la problemática del status científico de las ciencias sociales y humanas y a las prespectivas filosóficas que subyacen en las distintas orientaciones teóricas, sino también a las distintas definiciones que se otorgan al símbolo y al significado.

    The dimensions that are not patent in the behavior and in the human beliefs, the underlying logic of the structures and rules of the social relationships, have a great interest for the anthropology interested in the symbolism and the lenguage. In this article, it is sought to show that this interest that the anthropologists show for the symbolic cannot only be framed in a theoretical tendency. The symbol is a problematic concept and has a very diverse content. The theoretical, methodological and epistemological heterogeneity that caracterizes the authors and tendencies about the symbolism in anthropology is grounded not only in the problem of the scientific status of the social and human sciences, and of philosophical perspectives that underline the different theoretical orientations, but also in the different definitions that are granted to the symbol and its meaning.
