Propuestas pragmáticas. Sobre respeto moral y democracia comunicativa

    La emergencia del multiculturalismo ha impulsado el debate sobre el significado y el tratamiento de las diferencias. En este artículo nos hacemos eco de la propuesta de I.M. Young para habilitar un diálogo intercultural en contextos reales en los que determinados presupuestos de la deliberación —simetría, reversibilidad y privilegio de lo común— son repensados desde la necesidad de prestar respeto moral al otro diverso. Su aportación modifica el modelo deliberativo de democracia con el fin de hacerlo más inclusivo y realista y a partir de ella sugerimos la posibilidad de articular el concepto de responsabilidad pragmática en consonacia con el cultivo de virtudes comunicativas.

    The emergency of multiculturalism has intensified the debate about the meaning and treatment of differences. In this paper, we present and comment I.M. Young‘s proposal of creating the conditions for an intercultural dialogue in real contexts. Some of the traits of deliberation —symmetry, reversibility and the privilege conceded to the common— are rethought from the need of deserving moral respect to the cultural diversity of the other.

    Young‘s proposal modified «deliberative» democracy to obtain a more inclusive and realist model. Having into consideration this, we propose the possibility of defining a kind of pragmatic responsability that promotes communicative virtues.
