    Dada la compleja realidad de la mitra leonesa en el siglo XIII, similar por otra parte a lo que sucedía en su entorno geográfico, pretendemos elaborar y fijar la nómina episcopal, desenmascarar las problemáticas elecciones que condujeron a los distintos prelados hasta la silla pontifical, y analizar sus relaciones con la monarquía, con la ciudad y diócesis, y con el propio cabildo catedralicio. A pesar de las grandes dificultades económicas que la documentación refleja, la ciudad y sede leonesas vieron erigir el bello edificio catedralicio bajo la atenta mirada de prelados tan significativos como Martín Fernández y con la estrecha colaboración del cabildo.

    The reality of the Leonese prelacy during the 13th century was complex and, on the other hand, similar to what was happening in its geographic environment. We intend to elaborate and settle the list of its bishops as well as disclose the problematic elections which led the various prelates to the episcopal throne. We also try and analise the relationships between the prelacy and the monarchy, the city, the diocese, and the cathedral chapter itself. In spite of the great economic difficulties shown in the documents, the Leonese city and see witnessed the construction of the beautiful cathedral building under the attentive look of bishops as significant as Martín Fernández and with the close cooperation of the chapter.
