The purpose of this investigation is to establish the existence of a series of differential factors between repeating pupils and non-repeating pupils which may account for the different academic achievement of both groups. We have paid especial attention to psychological factors which have to do with the student¿s perception of his/her family, school and social environment but have not forgotten factors of personal type such as intelligence and self-concept. First of all, we have established the factors which discriminate more effectively the inclusion of the students in one group or the other by means of techniques of discriminant analysis and multiple regression analysis and, in the second place we have established the regression equations which allow us to predict with a certain margin of confidence the academic achievement of the pupils depending on their placing in one group or the other.
