  • Resumen
    • Modern Film esthetics develop in Brazil from the first neorealist experiments in the fifties into the Cinema Novo movement and its challenger at the end of the sixties, Cinema Marginal. This paper begins by historically resituating two founding essays: Glauber Rocha's book Revisão crítica do cinema brasileiro (1963) and Paulo Emilio Salles Gomes' "A Trajectory within Underdevelopment". It then analyses Brazilian Filmmakers’ political involvement with national issues and their concern with foreign contemporary movements. Nationalism was seriously contested after the Tropicalist turn of the decade. From the seventies on, Film production has sought its place within the local market. Authors must now confront the abstract new hegemonic model represented by television.
