    El debate sobre los centros históricos, lejos de agotarse con la aportación epistemológica de los años setenta y ochenta del siglo XX, ha encarado el inicio del XXI con el compromiso de una renovación conceptual y metodológica que posibiliten una mejor incardinación de la gestión de estos espacios en el conjunto de la ciudad. Lo que subyace en el debate es una nueva forma de entender el patrimonio cultural en la ciudad y en el territorio. Entre tanto, viejos y nuevos problemas cotidianos, y perentorios, siguen preocupando a responsables, estudiosos y ciudadanos relacionados con los espacios más antiguos de la ciudad. Probablemente el debate sobre los centros históricos no se acabará nunca, pero hoy, y ante la crisis de crecimiento que supone la emergencia de los bienes culturales como factor de desarrollo, volver al centro histórico como objeto de reflexión parece una acción oportuna y necesaria.

    The debate on the historical towns, far from exhausting itself with the epistemological contribution of the Seventies and Eighties of century XX, has faced the beginning of the XXI with the commitment of a conceptual and methodological renovation that make possible one better meeting of the management of these spaces in the set of the city. Which sublies in the debate is a new way of understanding the cultural heritage in the city and the territory. In the meantime, old and new problems daily, and fixed, continue worrying to people in charge, students and citizens related to the oldest spaces of the city. Probably the debate on the historical towns will never finish, but today, and before the crisis of growth that supposes the emergency of the cultural goods as development factor, retaking a return to the historical town as reflection object seems an opportune and necessary action.
