The author, having analysed the compositive technique of Hesiod and compared this myth with other hesiodic accounts, defends the traditional reading of the Pandora myth: the pithos contained all the evils, which now wander over land and sea (Op. 101), and the hope, that remained in the jar, reserved for the men as the one good thing to set against ills.
