Rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technologies not only open new opportunities but also pose significant challenges in higher education. The application of artificial intelligence technologies enhances teaching and learning processes, providing support to learners, but increasingly raises questions of academic integrity. The article analyzes artificial intelligence technologies and their potential applications in higher education, presenting the results of a study evaluating the extent of artificial intelligence technology application in Lithuanian colleges and their legal regulation.Furthermore, the article evaluates the adequacy of legal and institutional regulations governing the use of AI in higher education in Lithuania. As AI’s influence expands, there is a growing need for policies that balance innovation with the preservation of academic standards. By critically examining the legal and ethical dimensions of AI use in academia, the article aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion on how to responsibly integrate AI into the educational landscape.
