    El sistema de regadío del Valle de Ricote está íntimamente relacionado con el uso de un sistema de azudes y acequiasque conforman un paisaje cultural reconocible. Las primeras derivaciones del río Segura se encuentran desdeel nacimiento del río, en Pontones, donde una acequia parte de la fuente misma y se distribuye para dar agua yriego a dicha localidad. A partir de ahí, las tomas de las acequias y los azudes de las que nacen se van sucediendohasta la Vega Baja. A lo largo de los siglos, ambos elementos han constituido elementos del patrimonio hidráulicodel sureste español y constituye uno de los valores agroecológicos más importantes de la Región de Murcia.

    The irrigation system of the Ricote Valley is intimately related to the use of a system of weirs and ditches that makeup a recognizable cultural landscape. The first diversions of the Segura River are found from the source of the river,in Pontones, where a ditch branches off from the spring itself and is distributed to supply water and irrigation tothat locality. From there, the intake points of the ditches and the weirs from which they arise follow one anotheruntil the Vega Baja. Over the centuries, both elements have constituted components of the hydraulic heritage ofsoutheastern Spain and represent one of the most important agroecological values of the Region of Murcia.
