This chapter explores the methodological design of the serious video game The Woods, developed to assess localisation testing skills along with personality traits, which involves players’ decision-making processes and interaction with customisable localisation errors to gain insights into their personality traits and their aptitude for quality assurance (QA) testing roles. The game’s foundation in psychology and game design principles facilitates an evaluation of a player’s attention to detail, error detection skills, and overall suitability for localisation testing. This innovative approach aims not only to enrich the methodology for identifying individuals with high potential in game localisation testing but also to highlight the usefulness of such a tool in providing valuable data for both academic research and practical applications within the field of localisation. This chapter contributes to the evolving discourse on game-based assessment (GBA) by describing The Woods’ potential in bridging entertainment with professional practice, thereby offering a comprehensive framework for examining and enhancing localisation testing competencies.
