What is the unsafe stage? Here I will discuss my own attempts as a translator to bring disruptive texts to the UK stage. I will explore what happens when translating theater that has been written and performed in spaces of what I have previously called cultural extremity, where the theater is “militantly alien in its own environment,” about “extreme experiences lived, shared, remembered by the community from which the practitioners emerge” (Boyle, 2013, 208).
