  Se presenta una biografía del médico madrileño Rodrigo González Pinto, primer profesor de Psiquiatría en la Universidad del País Vasco, quien ejerció la docencia en la recién creada Facultad de Medicina en diciembre de 1936, en plena Guerra Civil española, cesando en junio de 1937 tras conquistar las tropas franquistas la ciudad de Bilbao y derogarse el Estatuto de Autonomía del País Vasco de 1936. Además, nuestro protagonista fue director médico del hospital psiquiátrico de Santa Águeda en Mondragón (Gipuzkoa) desde 1930 y jefe de los Servicios de Higiene Mental y Toxicomanías del Instituto Provincial de Sanidad de Vizcaya desde 1948.

  This paper presents a biography of the Madrid physician Rodrigo González Pinto, the first professor of Psychiatry at the University of the Basque Country, who taught at the newly created Faculty of Medicine in December 1936, in the midst of the Spanish Civil War. His appointment ceased in June 1937, after Franco’s army conquered the city of Bilbao and abolished the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country of 1936.

  Our protagonist was also Medical Director of the psychiatric hospital of Santa Águeda in Mondragón (Gipuzkoa) from 1930, as well as head of the Mental Hygiene and Drug Addiction Services of the Provincial Institute of Health of Vizcaya since 1948.
