    Los barrios de Tiradores y San Antón, en la ciudad de Cuenca, presentan grandes similitudes en cuanto a sus características tanto físicas y espaciales como socioeconómicas. Ambos asentamientos periurbanos tienen su origen medieval en la necesidad de que los nuevos habitantes procedentes del ámbito rural encontrasen un lugar fuera de la ciudad (pues no tenían derecho a ubicarse en su interior, no tenían derecho al fuero de la misma) pero sí a una zona cercana (una ubicación extramuros, pero adjunta a la ciudad). Se fijaban las residencias mediante la implantación desordenada en el medio natural de modestas viviendas formadas por un habitáculo único donde se desarrollaba la vida familiar, compartiendo techo con útiles y enseres e incluso animales. Si era habitada por algún artesano, se añadía un pequeño espacio a modo de taller y si la configuración del espacio así lo permitía, solían tener un pequeño huerto que hacía las veces de corral y letrina, en un medio hostil caracterizado por lo accidentado del terreno, su fuerte gradiente, así como la presencia de torrentes y barrancos. Desde mediados del siglo XX varias han sido las iniciativas de la administración local para acometer actuaciones sobre ambos asentamientos.

    The neighborhoods of Tiradores and San Antón, in the city of Cuenca, present great similarities in terms of their physical, spatial, and socioeconomic characteristics. Both peri-urban settlements have their medieval origins in the need for new inhabitants from rural areas to find a place outside the city (since they did not have the right to settle within it, they did not have the right to its jurisdiction) but they did have the right to a nearby area (a location outside the walls, but attached to the city). Residences were established through the disorderly implementation in the natural environment of modest homes made up of a single room where family life took place, sharing a roof with tools and belongings and even animals. If it was inhabited by an artisan, a small space was added as a workshop and if the configuration of the space allowed it, they used to have a small garden that served as a corral and latrine, in a hostile environment characterized by the rugged terrain, its strong gradient, as well as the presence of torrents and ravines. Since the middle of the 20th century there have been several initiatives by the local administration to undertake actions on both settlements.
