    • What did classical writers think of as an ideal world before More invented Utopia? Ideas of “utopia” prompt some combination of two philosophical threads. First appears the idea that there is a rich land, one where the land produces food of its own accord, the climate is pleasant, and people are free from strife and toil. This bounty of the land means that there is no need to contest over it. For examples, we see hints of such in Pindar’s pleasant afterlife in Olympian 2, Hesiod’s Works and Days, and Homer’s Phaeacia.
