Los principios cooperativos en la actualidad

    En los años recientes se ha producido un fenómeno singular en relación con los principios cooperativos. Por un lado, ha ido ganando terreno su reconocimiento por parte de organismos internacionales y gobiernos, con creciente presencia en la legislación de la materia, y, por otro, parece haberse instalado en el seno de la organización global que se encarga de su custodia y difusión —la Alianza Cooperativa Internacional (ACI)— un marcado empeño por enjuiciar críticamente su contenido y su actualidad. Esta tendencia podría llevar a tematizar cuestiones teóricas más que a impulsar la efectiva y concreta aplicación y expansión de los principios cooperativos en el mundo de nuestros días, cual es el imperativo de la ACI y del movimiento cooperativo en general. Urge, pues, poner las cosas en su quicio y no ceder a la tentación de reformismos complacientes. Este artículo constituye una reflexión acerca del origen y significado de los principios y una presentación sintética de su situación actual tratando de poner en evidencia la necesidad de profundizar la identidad cooperativa sin forzar su reforma.

    In recent years, a unique phenomenon has occurred in relation to cooperative principles. On the one hand, its recognition by international organizations and governments has been gaining ground with special force, with a growing presence in the legislation on the matter, and, on the other, it seems to have settled within the global organization that is responsible for its custody and dissemination —the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA)— a marked effort to critically judge its content and its relevance. This tendency could lead to thematizing theoretical issues rather than promoting the effective and concrete application and expansion of the cooperative principles in the world today, which is the imperative of the ICA and the cooperative movement in general. It is urgent, therefore, to put things in order and not give in to the temptation of complacent reformism. This article constitutes a reflection on the origin and meaning of the principles and a synthetic presentation of its current situation, trying to highlight the need to deepen the cooperative identity without forcing its reform.
