Resumen de La pesca de subsistencia y la diversificación de la ocupación laboral en el barrio San Pedro Pescador: Chaco (Argentina)

  La comunidad de San Pedro Pescador se encuentra dentro del Departamento 1° de mayo, en la provincia del Chaco, al noreste de la República Argentina. Esta comunidad de pescadores artesanales, se estableció hace más de 40 años en la ribera derecha del río Paraná, sobre el antiguo obrador que funcionó durante la construcción del puente interprovincial “General Manuel Belgrano”. Actualmente, este asentamiento se ha convertido en una populosa barriada formada, en un principio, por habitantes de la ribera e islas aledañas desplazados por la creciente extraordinaria del río Paraná en 1982. Según el censo del 2010 del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (el último disponible), se estima que allí residen alrededor de 800 personas. En sus inicios, el principal medio de vida era la pesca de subsistencia, complementada por la agricultura doméstica y la cría de pequeños animales. Con el tiempo, el barrio ha experimentado un proceso de consolidación y mejoras edilicias y funcionales. En este contexto, nuestro objetivo es analizar la estructura ocupacional de la población para determinar si la pesca de subsistencia continúa siendo la actividad predominante o si, por el contrario, ha habido una evolución hacia una diversificación ocupacional en otras áreas.

  Subsistence fishing is a type of commercial fishing also known as artisanal fishing due to the characteristics of its practice. For some authors, this type of fishing represents a marginal productive sector that does not fit within capitalist production models. However, there are communities, such as those residing in the San Pedro Pescador neighborhood, that are established and organized around artisanal fishing. The purpose of this study is to analyze the occupational structure of the population of the San Pedro Pescador neighborhood in order to determine whether subsistence fishing remains the predominant occupation or whether, on the contrary, there has been an evolution in the occupational structure, promoting diversification into other economic activities. As an initial working hypothesis, it is estimated that this population has gradually replaced artisanal fishing with other economic activities that surpass subsistence; furthermore, it is hypothesized that, in parallel, there has been an expansion of occupations, ranging from public and private employment in the nearby city of Resistencia to basic tertiary activities within the neighborhood itself.
