The metaphorical light verb construction has often been treated as a type of idiosyncratic verbonominal structure. In this article, we will assess the importance of the notion of predicative analysis (Gross 2012) in the linguistic characterization of these structures. To this end, we will define the principles underlying predicative analysis with the aim of proposing a compatible taxonomy of metaphorical light verbs. Finally, we will apply these principles on a bilingual corpus of Spanish-French journalistic texts where we will assess the validity of predicative analysis in the description of a set of predicative nouns denoting human feelings.
