Objective: To evaluate the association between VO2max relative to body mass (VO2max ) and different skin temperatures (Tsk) at the end and during the cooling down phase of a maximum exercise stress test. Methods: VO2max was measured in 150 young adults (50 men and 100 women, 18–25 years) using indirect calorimetry with a CPX Ultima CardioO2 gas analyzer. Tsk was recorded at 13 anatomical positions using iButtons before, during, and after the test. Results: A positive association was found between VO2max and both mean and proximal Tsk at the end of the test (β = 0,545, R²=0,297, p < 0,001; β = 0,412, R²=0,170, p < 0,001) and during the cooling down phase of the test (β = 0,494, R²=0,245, p < 0,001; β = 0,412, R²=0,170, p < 0,001). No significant associations were found of VO2max with distal Tsk or the supraclavicular Tsk gradient (p > 0,05). Conclusion: VO2max was positively associated with a greater increase in mean and proximal Tsk. These findings indicate that the ability to dissipate heat through the skin may be associated with enhanced cardiorespiratory fitness.
