  • Music is one of the most powerful tools of cultural communication. Ecuadoriantecnocumbia, a musical style that has gained notoriety in recent years, offers arepresentation of women that reflects deeply rooted stereotypes and gender roles.This study focuses on how this musical genre maintains and reinforces ideas ofsubmission, violence and internalized machismo. The lyrics were examined to detectrecurring patterns that support the image of women as objects of desire in contextsof violence or emotional dependence. The objective was verified if these elementsare frequent in tecnocumbia productions and how they contribute to the formation ofnegative stereotypes..
