This article analyses pragmatic aspects of certain verbal periphrases in the Spanish language. In all pragmatic studies, context plays an essential role. The concept of context, however, is wide, and it is necessary, therefore, to specify that the focus here will be the wold of emotions and the relation that is established and maintained between speakers throughout the conversation. Using a corpus of examples from various sources, it is shown that ther exists a relation between the use of certain verbal periphrases and the communicatin of emotive states of mind. A comparison with structures of similar function in other Romance languages aims al verutying the exclusive ntarure of certain constructions in Spanish and also at allowing for a more in-depth analysis of these Spanish constructions.
