Esta investigación surge debido a la curiosidad y al interés de su autor, quien pretende reconstruir la trayectoria de la Escuela Normal de Magisterio de Santander, analizando su génesis y la evolución, desde su creación en 1844 hasta integrarse en la Universidad. Han cobrado especial protagonismo las fuentes impresas de las diferentes instituciones y archivos, hemerográficas, icónicas, audiovisuales y materiales así como fuentes orales. Para ello se ha servido del método histórico-educativo y el comparativo, recurriendo a metodologías analíticas y cuantitativas.
Siguiendo un modelo cronológico, se aborda el desarrollo de la Escuela Masculina hasta 1915. Al cesar la actividad en la misma, se estudia la creación y puesta en funcionamiento de la Femenina. Con la llegada de la República, las Normales se fusionan, separándose nuevamente las dos escuelas después de la guerra. Logramos ver la trayectoria de la Escuela Normal a lo largo de estos años y nuestra investigación supone un aporte complementario importante para el patrimonio histórico-educativo.

For it he has make use of the historical-educational and comparative method, turning to analytical and quantitative methodologies.
Pursuing a chronological model, the development of the Men’s School until 1915 is presented. When the activity of it ceases, the creation and set up of the Women’s School is considered. With the arrival of the Republic, the Normal Schools merge, dividing the two schools again after the war. We manage to see the development of the Normal School through this years and our investigation mean an important complementary contribution to the historical educational heritage.
