After the first democratic elections of 1977, the Spanish Socialist Party shared the same views as the Communists and the centrists about "relegating to oblivion" the experience of war, underground years and exile in the name of national reconciliation. The PSOE paid homage to events and figures of the past only on the occasion of their death or to celebrate important anniversaries (the fiftieth of the death or the centenary of the birth). This policy of subdued, or "low profile" memory, implemented by the Socialists, underwent a change from 1988, when, ten-fifteen years after Franco’s death, exile was presented as an integral part of a new, constitutional patriotism.

Resumen: Este artículo analiza la trayectoria po-lítica de Fernando Morán, destacando su voca-ción europeísta y dedicación al mundo africano. Como miembro de la generación de hijos de la Guerra, su compromiso antifranquista comenzó en los años cincuenta del siglo XX. Vinculado a Tierno Galván, participó en la acción de gobierno de la primera legislatura socialista, para vincular-se más adelante a la corriente del PSOE, Izquier-da Socialista. Abstract: This article analyzes the political career of Fernando Morán, highlighting his pro-Eu-ropean vocation and dedication to the African world. As a member of the generation of children of the War, his anti-Franco commitment began in the 1950s. Linked to Tierno Galván, he participated in the government action of the first socialist legislature, to later join the current of the PSOE, Izquierda Socialista.

La reorganización del PSOE durante la transición partió de un núcleo central, en el que jugaron un papel decisivo no sólo las federaciones vascas y andaluzas sino la segunda generación del exilio, que reconstituyó el resto de la organización territorial. Este núcleo central logró la unidad socialista en un partido federal frente a los que defendían una federación de partidos socialistas. La reconstrucción socialista desde un punto de vista territorial tuvo como principal marco de acción política la reforma del Estado, el nuevo Estado de las Autonomías.
