    Se propone un nueva hipótesis para el origen del topónimo “Almoradí”: Como el topónimo no aparece en el "Libro del Repartimiento de Orihuela", la localidad así denominada habría surgido después de la conquista cristiana. Sí aparece citada en el "Libro del Repartimiento” la “Acequia Vieja de Almoradí”. Se propone la relación de esta “Acequia Vieja de Almoradí” con la familia del terrateniente oriolano Ibn al-Murābiṭ al-Murādī, de quien tenemos datos desde finales del s. XI. Este erudito y terrateniente la habría construido a sus expensas para irrigar sus campos y por ello se conoció esta acequia por su nombre de al-Murādī.

    One new hypothesis for the origin of the Arabic place name “Almoradi” is proposed: As the place name is not mentioned as a village in the "Libro del Repartimiento de Orihuela" (Book of the Share-out of Orihuela), we conclude that the village is founded after the Christian conquest. In the “Book of the Share-out of Orihuela” is mentioned the "Acequia Vieja de Almoradi" (Old ditch of Almoradi), and is proposed the relationship of this “Old ditch of Almoradi” with the family of the landlord of Orihuela named Ibn al-Murabit al-Muradi, that was known since the late 11th century. He had built at his own expense this great irrigation ditch to irrigate their fields and thus was named by his name of al-Murādī.
